Article for the "Public Humanist"


I was recently asked to contribute an article about the meeting place between the arts and the humanities in the 100 Faces project.  You can see that article at the link here.  

In this article I describe the production of one portrait and how it goes from sitting with a guy in his dining room, to making a painting, to becoming part of a historical survey of the American experience of the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Above is a picture which is included in the article.  This is what it looks like when I go out to meet someone to paint on location.  The painting in process there is the one of Phil Gorman from August, 08.
